First project! I have chosen to make a bookmark. Most of my inspiration came from my infatuation with trees and or celtic designs.

Sawing Metal
The very first thing we did in my metal-smithing class was saw a design out of a sheet of metal! We started out by drawing whatever design we chose on the metal. Then we punched a divot into the center so that when we used the drill press to drill a hole it wouldn't slip out.
After drilling the hole we threaded the saw blade (I used a size 1/0 blade) through the hole and began sawing away. It turned out to be more difficult than my instructor made it look. The way we had to hold the metal on the bench pin was extremely awkward and made my wrist sore. I thought the whole process was extremely interesting though and I am looking forward to the first project!
